9-6-23 Prescott Ontario

Prescott Ontario:

Established 1784

Integral port location for the mustering of local militia during the War of 1812.

Members of the Scottish Highlanders and United Empire Loyalists who left the US after the Revolutionary war, joined forces with the few English soldiers available to fight the Americans up and down the St. Lawrence River.

Britain had its hands full with the war in France and could not spare any more soldiers for this conflict in the Colonies, so locals served for 3 years and if survived received 100 acres of crown land for their service.

Our Air B&B is near the River walk in Prescott, in the Ships and Stacks.

We are on the third floor in an open concept loft apartment.

After dinner at the Red George ( named in honor of Lieutenant Colonel George McConnel, who led the local militia in raids from Fort George, Fort York, and Lundys Lane).

Then we strolled along the River Walk where we saw the local ferry service, a lake freighter.

Then we had ice cream at Katarina's Cafe in town - we will get espressos there in the morning.
